I am in love with the idea of a
bride and groom exchanging gifts to be opened on their big day. However, it can be nearly impossible to
come up with an idea that is unique and memorable.
This DIY project is very
inexpensive and can be enjoyed for your entire first year of marriage: The Date Night Jar (thank you Pinterest, for the inspiration)!
What is this, you ask?
Well, come up with 52 date night ideas, write them on popsicle sticks
and put them in a mason jar. Once
a week, pull a new popsicle stick out of a jar and voila! You have your date
for the night/weekend.
How to make this happen...
1. Gather your supplies:
- 1 Mason Jar
- 1 Sharpie Marker
- 52 Popsicle Sticks (3 different colours)
- 2 Labels
- Ribbon
Total cost: < $20.00
2. Come up with some good ideas. You can split your ideas into 3
categories:
- Splurge: these activities will likely require some planning. I would only include about 6 – one for every other month.
- At Home: these activities are cheap and will require very little notice to execute. They can all be done at home.
- Cheap Outings: these activities are cheap and will get you out of the house.
See my list below!
3. Once you have your list, start
writing ‘em down on the popsicle sticks.
Each category should be placed on a different colour stick.
4. Make 2 labels: 1 titled 'The Date Night Jar' and the other with a legend, explaining the colour scheme.
5. Put the popsicle sticks in the mason jar, tie some ribbon
around the neck of the bottle and stick the labels on the outside of the jar.
That’s it! You’re done!
Another idea:
My husband and I always have a
tough time deciding on a restaurant.
With a fourth colour of popsicle sticks, I wrote down every restaurant
that I could think of and put these in the jar as well. Next time we’re in a bind, we can just
go to the jar and pick out a green popsicle stick. Dinner is served!
